The Local Government Standards Architecture Reference Model (LGSARM)

Technical Standards typically define how information will be exchanged, or how functional components can interoperate.  They therefore need to be positioned within a ‘Reference Model’ so that:-

ü      It is clear in what context a standard is relevant.

ü      Gaps, where no standard applies, can be identified.

LeGSB has therefore proposed a Local Government Standards Architecture Reference Model, which will give a visible context for existing standards, highlight those that are still required, and give a tangible model to engage with the rest of the public sector.

We are currently refining the model with

  • SOCITM
  • Public Sector Information Domain Team

The LGSARM contains 7 layers that represent the boundaries of a customer journey through a Local Authority transaction.

The model is backed up by a definition of the layers and the components that are defined in each layer. Standards are now being mapped onto those components.

We are keen to receive feedback on the model, please e-mail info@legsb.gov.uk.
